PostSubject: Aluminium radiators   Fri Sep 24, 2010 3:17 am

Hey all just wondering if anyone has got any experience of aluminium rads?

Last Llandow my car was not keeping cool enough so I am looking into a 52mm aluminium rad to help keep things colder on track (also using exhaust heat wrap as manifold runs under sump, and a cooling plate to help force air to the rad). Not looking to spend an arm and a leg as don't have any spare unfortunately!

I got a link to a radiator on japspeed and wondering if anyone has or heard of any experience with these?

LINKY

Looked into well respected Koyo ones but can only find ones for like 350 and that seems rather a lot!

Found one on ebay like the link above but cheaper. Any opinions?

Forge will custom make any size or thickness, top quality work tbh, but you do have to pay for it!

Just mailed them now. Don't really want to spend much more than 150-160 though as not got more than that to spend!

I noticed quite a noticeable difference with my Nissen's ally rad after fitting. think nissens say they run about 30% better cooling than standard.

Yeah that's what the japspeed one says to. Obviously normal driving would stay the same as thermostat is regulating the temp. It's hard/track driving that it would show a difference.

Looked on the skyline forum and they seem to think the japspeed one works well. One poster said that with the standard rad the temp reached 110c after 5 laps yet with the alu rad didn't get above 100c after 20 laps! So could be a worthwhile mod!

We buy our alloy rads from ebay usually. Same product is sold at retailers for over double the price...

Yeah link above is for an ebay one and looks exactly the same as the japspeed one, just thought the extra 20 squids may be worthwhile for some better comeback if things go wrong!?

Didnt even bother look at the links.. my bad Razz
Only difference i can see is the drain plugs are in a different location.

We buy all of our rads and intercoolers from ebay now, and never yet had a problem with them, but thats not to say you wont... I would be cheap and get the ebay one, but the choice is up to you!

If the Japspeed one is only 20 more I would go for that. Probably easier should it not work etc to get a new one sorted out.
