| Hello all, my name is David from Hertfordshire (not far from Hemel Hempstead) I drive a Peugeot 106 (independence) which I have owned for the last 7/8 years. Bought off my sister it was originally a 1.1 8v engine. After a few years of ownership I was getting bored of it's moonstone blue colour, its petite performance & its bland interior so thought I would go through the stages of "modifying" it. The car before anything was ever done to it:As a newbie to modifying, I took the usual root of induction kit, stereo, speakers, body coloured bumpers, cheeky alloy wheels which sufficed for a few years but always had my eye on the goal of putting in a bigger engine, putting on a body kit (not a chavvy one) so eventually got to the point of removing the old 1.1 8v lump and buying a GTI engine/gearbox off eBay to put in... And here is the engine prior to installation:With the engine in, I found I had numerous issues with my adhoc wiring around the engine cooling fan (always overheating as the thing never kicked in) had oil leaks from all kinds of places & eventually the gear box main shaft bearing went which meant the clutch got covered in oil and eventually I needed to change that which was a pig of a job leaving the engine in the bay but managed to do it. I found over time the car exterior could do with a few changes so I sourced things like tinted windows, doors which have been de-locked, powder coated my GTI alloys & added the GTI kit to it which made the car look fu*king ugly (but I still loved it!) Here is that car I speak of:So by this point I was driving a frankenstein looking car with an engine which was a little unreliable & an interior which was still a bit 'ad-hoc' in terms of what direction I was going to take it in, enough was enough! Engine out + respray to body:Refurbish the engine & put back in:Few last year car shots:Where I am now and where I want to be:So I'm currently trying to get the car ready for track/hill climb/sprint stuff which will involve the fitting of a Roll cage, bigger bucket seat, wheel with quick release, further wiring to disable alarm, battery cut off, etc etc. I've recently just fitted a 6 point cage + purchase a cobra clubman evo seat + suede deep dish wheel with quick release: Will update as I go :-) Thanks for having me! David. | |
