PUBLIC TRACK DAY RWYB (Open to all makes and models of cars & motorcycles) incorporating Ford Weekend: 27/09/2008 - 28/09/2008
Over the years Ford have dominated the world drag racing market in both professional and amateur drag racing. Countless General Motors brands have tried, and sometimes triumphed in their quest to get to the finish line first.
In England the story is pretty much the same as the fifties and sixties Ford Pops and the seventies and eighties Ford Escorts challenge all comers to contests at English strips, and at Stratford-upon-Avon’s Shakespeare County Raceway in September Ford fans will get there chance to up hold Dagenham honour even more in a weekend of Ford quarter mile madness at Shakey’s Blue Oval Challenge Ford Weekend; part of the new line-up of Public Track Day events at the Warwickshire drag strip.
Scheduled for the weekend of 27th/28th September, Shakey’s Blue Oval Challenge is open to any make of Ford from any part of the globe; American, Australian and, of course, dear old blighty. We don’t mind. If its got four wheels, has a blue oval badge, then its good to go.
There will be the traditional class trophies for the quickest RWD, FWD and 4WD as well as Best Retro, Best Yank and Best Aussie. The weekend is expected to draw a healthy club interest too for the 440 Inter-Club Ford Tournament. Old Skool new Skool, it doesn’t matter which because the Old Skool Fords will be out to play in a double header points round of the popular OSF Drag Challenge. Additional events and attractions will be added as the months roll by.
All you need to know for now is Where, When and how much? It's happening at Shakespeare County Raceway nr Stratford-Upon-Avon September 27th/28th. £10 per day per person buys you a ticket to the event, but for a further £20 per day this will allow you unlimited access to one of Europe’s quickest and fastest quarter mile drag strips and take part in one of the many Run What You Brung on track timed class competitions. All you will need is a fast Ford, DVLA licence, and provided your car passes a quick safety check, the track is yours (helmets are recommended).
The weekend also consists of the fourth points scoring round for the Pro Street Drag Series for Jap imports together with the National Street Car Challenge and its legion of seriously quick American and European street racers.
