Will the Clio be the base for the track car or something else?
There are some many different opinions for what makes the 'perfect' track car, but it all depends on what YOU want... whats your budget, whats driving ability?

Get on track with how it is right now. So you've got a base to work from. That way you know if you've actually made any improvements or if you're going in the wrong direction.

| welcome mate,
As dave said the only really thing you would like to do before doing your first day would be the brakes so that you are confident you can stop anything else drive it first and see what needs doing to make it perform how you want. So many people go out and buy all the flash mods and turns out it's no faster or even slower than a car with much less on it.

Mk1 clios are awesome. I would agree with the others that getting out on track as the car is now is the best option, then see what needs improving.

| leave said club, best advice ever I'll stick to what I said earlier, do a few mods to improve looks and safety ie brakes and suspension then look at what you could do to make it how you want it. There is a certain person I know of on another club who is building a 106 rallye it will be a very good quality build i'm sure but he has never driven it on track so won't know if it's handling better or worse than before. oh and power is nothing if it don't go round a corner properly. | |

Exactly. Ignore power figures. You can have a 500bhp turbo track beast but if you can't drive it around a corner properly you'll soon have a 1.1 Clio catching up each lap.

| what i would recommend is a 1.8 16v engine and gearbox with the valver suspension all round which can be picked up for peanuts. the 16v engine has far more grunt than the rsi lump and is a pretty rev happy engine so on track its pretty good imo.
a standard valver handles exceptionally well, i put my standard daily drive round track when my track car was broken and was very amazed at how good it was and if had been lowered would have been even better! i had a 1.2 clio in the past and chucked valver suspension on, it transformed the car tbh.

shame about the death-trap harness/seat combo but easily fixed for a few ££

shame about the death-trap harness/seat combo but easily fixed for a few ££ People will never learn, isn't it just common sense that a standard seat will fold in two with the forces that a harness creates?!
