Hi! Got carded at Llandow yesterday...

Hey all!
Had a great day in Llandow yesterday! My first time at Llandow, and my first time with the new car on track so I was trying to take it easy (especially considering how wet it was!).

Got back to my car after lunch to find a card on my windscreen so I thought I'd sign up!

My last car was a Fiesta ST, and after a load of mods it was a pretty quick machine. Reliability was horrible though, had loads of suspension issues and it just seemed to be one problem after another. Then to top things off I woke up one morning to find somone had nicked my bumper, spoiler and jacking point covers!

So ended up going for a car that there'd be no point nicking the parts off, and that didn't stand out too much in the car park!

Yeah that was my dad in the sti, that thing really can shift - especially in the wet!

I was struggling a bit with the gears, coming from an N/A Fiesta, I'm till geting used to the power delivery. I was shifting down to 2nd when I really shouldn't have been. Started getting into the swing of it by about 4 and then got low on petrol. Looking forward to getting another track day in before the end of the year!

There were a couple of nasty smashes during the day yeah... the Nova had a nasty one in the morning.

I did enjoy the battle between the Impreza P1 and the orange kit car, those two were really flying round.

Were you driving yesterday?

Unfortunately not, just watching for a couple hours. Jamesy was saying the p1 didn't sound too healthy by the end, and the supra (running a 4.0 litre soarer engine with a t80 strapped to it) blew it's engine too! Hard and expensive day for a few people!

Bet the sti's 4wd really helped in the wet. Not that it would have helped the guy in the fq360 running slicks in the damp!

I was just waiting to go back on track when the cloud of smoke came from the Supra! That thing was really quick on the straights, but looked like it was a real handfull in the bends. I saw it spin at least 3 times.

I was talking to the guy with the FQ360 in the morning and he was dying to try the slicks out, I thought it was suicide given the conditions. His mate with the S4 said he'd got them off ebay and was determined to use them!

I don't know if it's brave or stupid to be honest! (probably the latter!) Lots of fun though. I haven't been on a "proper" track before this. I've done a few airfield days, and two trips to the ring though. After the ring, it's good to drive somewhere where there's actually a bit of run off at the side of the track, calms the nerves a bit!

We will be doing a ring trip around sept next year bud

Are you not scared that some Novice driver in a Purple Escort convertible can't turn left at the bustop because of a broken wishbone then crashes into you on the exit in your 60 plate car...

Do you get fully comp track insurance btw??

Yeah it's definately on my mind... I tend to keep a very close eye on what's in front/behind me! If someone's driving like a loon I'll let them pass!

On a track like Llandow, it's quite easy to keep an eye on what's going on. With somewhere like the ring it's pretty different (and I take it much slower!).

It is a worry though and no I wasn't insured for the track. It's definately something I'm going to look into next time though!!

Still, what's the point owning a car like that if you don't give it a blast on a track?

I'm thinking I might do Llandow again on the Dec 4th. Cheapest way of getting a trackday in before Christmas .

Keep your eyes open for people dropping out in feb Llandow. Be good to see you up there.

And if no one does just come along on the day and enjoy the passenger laps!
