Fans of the World Rally Championship want Ford to adopt the all-black colour scheme it trialled during a test in France last month for the remaining six events of the season.
The factory team, which is currently second in the WRC manufacturers’ standings, swapped its familiar blue and white colour scheme for a mean and moody black for the asphalt test as part of a publicity exercise.
In an online poll on Wrc.com, users were asked if they preferred the all-black paintjob used for the test to the more traditional blue and white rally version. A staggering 91 per cent said that they did.
However, Ford’s European motorsport head Gerard Quinn says the Fiesta RS WRCs of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala will revert back to their established colours when the world championship resumes on Neste Oil Rally Finland later this month, albeit with a few tweaks.
“It was the first occasion that we used a bespoke livery on our test car, and we're delighted that so many readers of Wrc.com enjoyed the look,” said Quinn. “We'll continue to introduce new ideas such as this. In Finland the [factory] cars of Mikko Hirvonen, Jari-Matti Latvala and Khalid Al Qassimi will carry roof designs
