Llandow 2nd July 2010 - Follow up thread (pics and chat)

Looked an awesome day, well apart from the few engine issues.

Short video as my camera decided to run out of battery, was just getting into that session aswel

Was trying to concentrate on being as smooth as possible.

And I need more power.

Good vid Huw... Was everyone going that wide into the long righthander after the bus stop??

Ad and Sam were pulling out over the line like you did, but i didn't find it necessary?

The bit before the back straight?

I followed Chris's line through there which I'd been told about before, you get a better run and keep more speed through there that way.

I ended up over the line a couple of time, but found the turn in wasn't quick enough from there... It's interesting to see how different people drive!

I didn't on my first session, but Chris said about it and I found I could carry a bit more speed down the straight as well as hit the rumble strip on the exit of the corner pretty well.

Were you advised to to cross the line going into nook bend?

Like I said, was just trying it out in that session. Had never been to Llandow before so wanted to experiment a bit.

Was it beneficial? Doesn't seem too tight a corner to take so wide.

I found that line much better personally, I tried following the track a few times but found I could get a lot more speed down the back straight - guess it's down to driving style really

I'll get my vid up soon, but it's a pretty terrible quality one

If I crossed the line I could carry a bit more speed through. In my car it doesn't make a huge difference but with something a bit more powerful I think it would be quite beneficial.

I saw another Meatsword today (I'm never going to be able to look at an Escort Cab the same way again), a lovely maroon example parked on the common near Stroud, with the roof down. Looked abandoned TBH, want a new track car anyone?

Looked like an epic day on track lookin forward more now to next track session.

Was a great day Loved my first time on track and shitting stu up a few times Thankyou meatsword for giving me the opportunity

How did everyone's tyres hold up anyway?

I was pretty impressed with the Goodyear Hydragrips They didn't wear too much if I thought they'd melt. The odd small chunk missing but nothing major. They'll last another trackday easily.

Well as the meatsword had 4 different makes, i feel i can give an opinion on this part...

All treads were legal when we started...

Toyo Proxie TR1 - Tread melted by lunch, side wall destroyed.

Ceat - Into the canvas on 1/3 of the inner edge by end of play

Arrowspeed - Replaced the Proxie, bulging after the first contact with a kerb

Darkhorse - After an experience with these at brands i was expecting a lot - and it held out well.

B4T's verdict - Darkhorse FTW.

The proxie side was destroyed because it ran the morning at 20psi lol

my proxies did alright, bit like harry redknaps face on the passenger side, but considering the abuse you'd expect that

Think the screen shut off after 5 minutes or so, as that's when I last touched it - bit crap lol!

My russian branded tyres fared well, and actually weren't that bad on track. I think it was more the large 60 profile that I had a problem with than the actual grip. They still had enough tread to drive home on too!

On another note, thanks to all involed to make the day happen and Dave for taking me for a drive in the Civic! An even bigger thanks to Sam tho for letting me use his car! He is more daring than i would have been!

Couldn't get on to facesuck without logging in and I refuse to use it ever again so spent the evening editing down my video's into different drivers!!

Loved the whole day and really learnt what my car was capable of (so much more than I thought). Overall my brakes held up faultlessly all day with no fade, but the area's I need to work on with the car is cooling (got quite hot a few times) and tyres (budgets did really well and got another 1 or 2 days left with them but will look at grippier ones after that)!

I was impressed with how well you were going Sam, esp when you think it was only your first ever trackday!

Cheers Stu, yeah I was impressed with myself, brother, dad and James as first time for all of us and we certainly gave the cars a good run!

Yeah they are Masher, strapped one to my car, one to James' (unfortunately it didn't record) and one to Dave's Civic Type-R but he has that footage on his own laptop!

Certainly great quality for the money!
