| Hello everybody, I stumbled upon this website by accident. Anyway, i'm Stuart. I'm usually around the Essex/Herts area. I've owned a Honda Accord Type R for just under 4 years. Whilst i've owned it, i've messed about with it a lot. Some would say i've improved it, others might say i've ruined it. The car has served some time on track in the past. It still has a cracked rear bumper and the engine was pretty much rebuilt last August, due to excessive oil & coolant consumption. For those of you who haven't heard of this car, i'll mention a little bit about it : The production run was 5 years (1998-2003). The engine was similar to that of old 2.2 Preludes in the mid-late nineties & produced 209bhp @ 7200rpm and had a redline of around 7900rpm. The R variant was lower and stiffer than the bog standard Accord and came fitted with a Torsen LSD and loads of other goodies. The car was also stripped of much of it's sound deadening, which reduced the weight to around 1320kgs and resulted in a 0-62mph sprint time of around 6.5-7.0secs. The car is closely related to the Civic (EK9) and Integra (DC2) in many respects and is nothing like the later Civic, Integra and S2000 models. Thanks for reading. | |

The old generation of type R's are very different from the new ones. A friend of mine has a 2004 EP3 and even he agrees that it's a totally different experience. Everything from the steering feel/response to the engine itself is totally different. With the K20 engine, the vtec comes in relatively smoothly and the engine note changes, but with these older (and less refined) VTEC engines, you sometimes feel it as well as hear it. These cars are very cheap to buy, but they are getting quite old now. Some of the engines use no oil at all, whereas others have an amazing appetite for expensive synthetic oil. | |
