On a follow up to mashers thread I bought two keyring spy video recorders this morning on the bay for trackdays. They were 9quid each and have had a lot of interest over various car forums for how good the quality is for the money. Not going to be as good as a proper set up but only cost 18 quid for 2.
Undecided whether to run both at once or just one at a time but should get some footage of people on track at llandow!

One for the caqr, one for the womens changing rooms?
Run one on the front, and one on the speedo head, and overlay the two?
Would make a good video, and give any newbies we get an idea of speeds on different tracks

No under car lighting will be added to the prelude, in the spirit of track days it weighs far too much!

Rear cam ftw. There's a brilliant video on YouTube of some mental Jap car at Santa Pod. It's got a rear camera just before the wheel arch, so you can see the slicks as it belts it down the track.
I would find it on YouTube and share it but I've blocked YouTube at work

I think I bought a slightly different cam to the rest of you that came with a couple of different mounts. I've only tested it once on the Teg, and that was when it broke so I won't be uploading that but I'll test it properly when I get it back

Years ago i had a infa red camera on the front bumper
and a 7" screen on dash it all went through an old vhs recorder, i got a few vhs tape's full of track action but i then decided to install a big sound system in the car and convert to a show car so took it all off
I still have it somewhere i'll have to dig it out and stick it on the Rallye

Looks good grunge. Let's hope if you do reuse it though you don't use vhs as don't know anyone who has a vhs player anymore!

Funny you should say that. My Dad was a TV engineer with his own business. We have a stack of VHS recorders in the garage that he can't get rid of. So if you do want one, let me know and I'll be able to sort you out

Well had a problem with the two cameras from Hong Kong...in that they didn't arrive so got a refund and bought just one from a UK seller on this Sun just gone and it was through my door today!!
Had a little play with it tonight and all is good. If I have time over the next couple of days will take it out for a trial on the Lude and get the vid up here!

Well I managed to find a trial video of a keychain spy camera that a mysterious person has created! Not quite sure who's it is but does look like a strangely familiar area, almost like it's quite near to my house. Looks to me like the cheap spy keychains are a good little buy!

Looks like they have lost some quality through editing though so maybe something for that person to work on a little!

I think it's YouTube that breaks the quality.
But those keychain cams are spot on for the money! Although I find I have to poke a paperclip in the reset button quite often to get it to turn on or record.

Not bad quality, even for YouTube!
Good idea to have one facing back as it will give you a good idea of your road position. Front cam's show entry points well but as the action is fast and furious it is difficult to pick out exit points (something to do with Doppler Shift given the high speeds - Einsteins general theory of relativity gives some insight into this - relevant at the speeds you will be going. ).
Speed and traction out of corners will improve as your exit strategies become more informed.
Have you considered fitting an engine management data recorder along with a MapECU? After all, we all know how the data recorder/transmitter in the works van has 'encouraged' you to develop a smoother driving style!
I reckon seeing your engine speed as a graph would enable you (or me, I guess) to overlay the data onto a track diagram, especially entries and exits. You may need to get hold of an accelerometer-based g recorder and then we can look at the limits of adhesion cornering, accelerating and braking for different tyres and more importantly, weather conditions.
OCD now kicking in at about 3K rpm!
