| 2010 == cams.
2011 = Quaife or bodies? I'm undecided.
Rough prices:
£1000 would get me a Quaife and labour. £2000 would get me bodies, including standalone, remap and labour. But I'd also probably need new cams.
What would you do and why? Keeping in mind this is on my 106 16v (cammed).
I'm swaying towards Quaife. Bodies would probably give more smiles per miles but would a Quaife be more awesomer on track?

| LSD for me, as it'll be a consiquential mod after boddies anyway.
Awesomer on track too. | |

| LSD... I'm probably alone on this, but unless going for mega cams/pocketed pistons etc (I.E a build like Dean's or similar) I feel that bodies are a bit pointless apart from making it sound nice - they hardly seem worth the cost/effort lol
Would be careful with the Quaifes though, I've heard of a few needing rebuilds every few k on the 106s. But then I get the feeling they drove like absolute dildos 24/7 though...

| Got to agree with Chris, not sure how much gain you're going to get for 2K on just essentially bolt on modifications, may be that you only gain 20-25bhp. I do remember Sam Cotton's GTi though when he took me out after fitting my larger rear ARB; it went like mad, but that was when I still had the 1.1 so unsure how it would go against your 16v. Perhaps drop him a message.
LSD is more tempting for me as the gearboxes are a weak part, but you could wait until your gearbox gives up first too, may get another year out of it at least.

| I dropped Colin at ATSpeed Racing an email as well to get a price. He uses Gripper diffs and says they'd "batter the crap out of a Quaife" Price is similar to Pug1Off. I asked about maintenance. He said the Gripper diffs will need maintenance as they wear down but he's had his in for 2 years without needing to change anything. Quaife should be more of a "install and forget" mod. He also said that a GTi/XSi gearbox would be ideal. So maybe the best way to go would be to source a GTi or XSi box, have it rebuilt with an LSD and then travel up to have it bolted on. I think my box needs to come off anyway. I think the oil leak I've got is coming from the camshaft seal on the gearbox side. | |

| I woted boddies, purely for the noise.
As a serious suggestion I agree with everyone else. Sort a Quaife for it and you'll get much more from the car.

| LSD dave all day long, I remember going out in Pauls off SSC and the way it put the power down out the corner could murder others | |

| I had a read of some posts over on RR and I'm now set on an LSD. It seems like the most logical progression. Save TBs for 2012 and do a proper job.
Quaife ATB appears to be the best choice for a fast road/track setup. If the 106 was trailered I'd go for the Gripper diff.
Next thing to do is work out if I should get rid of the 1.4 Quiksilver box and get something different like a GTi box or an S1 Rallye box. Or if the difference is marginal, is it really worth trying to source another box?

| I'd get a quaife if i was you mate, 1.4 xsi or s2 rallye box for it.
I gather you have 708's? It will make around 170 bhp on bodies. If they are been fully timed correctly which is hard with standard pistons. I dont have a quaife in mine anymore and look how much i struggle to get the power down.
But after my full suspension overhaul i will be building myself a box.

| Thanks Dean. I'll read up on the ratios for those boxes. It's a steep learning curve for me. I'm not mechanically minded. I just give the car over to people like Pug1Off and tell them what I want and enjoy going out on track No, I'm not running 708s. I have "Pug1Off combination cams". IIRC it's a combination of a fast road and a competition cams but I'm not sure which way around they are (i.e. if the fast road is the inlet or exhaust cam). Speaking with Colin at ATSpeed Racing, he said when (or if) I go the bodies route I could go for some 737's with valve cutouts or forged pistons. I think I'll set bodies as the goal for 2012. Just reading RR, everyone who has got an LSD has said it totally transforms the car. Like the car is magnetic. What gearbox did you have when you were at Summer Performance Action Day at Combe last year? | |

| This that was the s1 rallye box, I had a quaife in it, but sold it when i was going to break the car, I will be getting a new one very soon. with the gear clusters to go with it. If you need any help with a 106 of any kind give me a shout, I have a guy down here which will do the mapping etc and he has done 100's of these and gets them perfect even 400 miles to a tank with the performance | |

| New Quaife. Not sure on the gearbox yet. I've been told a VTR gearbox would be best but having a read through various posts on websites, it's very mixed. Top end should be better but at the expense of acceleration. The boost boys like VTR boxes. Not sure how well it'd work on my cammed engine though.
Also considering a L&B flywheel whilst everything is off.

| I recon the flywheel will help as your revs will climb faster so you should get on the cams quicker...VTR box, i'd be against remember the boosted lot will have better low down than you have, I always though my GTI box was very well suited for the majority of tracks i've done. | |

| As above really, don't rate the VTR box at all, only for boost tbh - far too long. | |
