Track car ax project Empty
PostSubject: Track car ax project   Track car ax project EmptyThu Feb 05, 2009 9:21 am

thought id whack some quick pics i took tonight of the car, red one is the track slag and has basically been abandoned for now but its soon (if all goes to plan)

first pics are the white one, better shell but mainly a daily a-b driver atm, some light mods nothing special but once the missus decides to get her c2 then i'll use this shell rather than the red one maybe.

Track car ax project 2710

Track car ax project 23100

heres some shoddy pics of the track shell im building, shell needs a bit more work hence its track use instead of road, 140k shell but ripe for stripping, caging and tracking with some second hand ORCi National Hot Rod Tyres Twisted Evil

Track car ax project Dscf0410
Track car ax project Dscf0411
Track car ax project Dscf0412

still a lot of work to do to both but im trying to level it out so a bit at a time goes to each one.

so far ive amassed the following for the track car:

4 4point harnesses
8sets of steel wheels(need to keep for the white one now for spares since 4stud will be happning)
seats stripped out
FIA spec material for an ORCi stock rod cage
manged to "aqquire" some second hand perspex from Stagecoach! Laughing

few more bits and bobs ill pop up as the thread continues.....dont expect lightning build progress its a slow but steady project thread but progress will get made with both cars when money and time allows from work and family commitments Cool

full 106 xsi 4 stud conversion (if car isnt crushed before i get there!)
xsi engine swap
mega lowering
omp upper and lower strut braces
ax gt front arb and gti rear arb

indeed they would look good Cool ive got some colour changes to make to the red one but i reckon some will make its way on it haha.

mega low because atm its like a fookin 4x4 with standard shocks and springs....when i say max id prob say maybe 50mm most all round.

get a few updates in a wee while on the red one as im now heading out to the garage to start the eventual stripdown of the red one and clear out more clutter from the garage i dont need Laughing

yeah hopefully...just been offered a full 106 gti rear beam and front complete struts on the mega cheap and were on a track car, lowered 60mm all round so im waiting on a reply, seems now that im starting the work the parts are flooding in now! Laughing

still not sure which way to go engine wise, probably after the idea's of a bike engine, 4E starlet turbo engine and VTEC i'd probably end up going 16v GTi/VTS more than likely unless the B16/B18 will fit and is within budget Twisted Evil

PostSubject: Re: Track car ax project   Track car ax project EmptyFri Feb 06, 2009 6:50 am

ok plans for tomorrow are:

Arrow strip drivers seat and carpet out the car.
Arrow take out as much of th dash as possible leaving only the main section.
Arrow get started on stripping the sound deadning from the floor.
Arrow battery out and in the skip (fooked)
Arrow move the better conditioned gear into the road car (speakers, shelf, cd player etc)
Arrow anything else that i can think of that needs taken out...may start on the rooflining and get that off the car as well.

managed to aqquire over the last week:

- harnasses
- cold air feed
- ton of 3stud steelies for the white one whenever it goes out on track now and again
- quickshift
- rev counter with shift light

will be looking for some decent second hand FIA apporved seats, some lightweight alloys more than likely second hand Hot Rod Superlites, 106 GTi suspension setup & brakes and a few other bits n bobs....

PostSubject: Re: Track car ax project   Track car ax project EmptySat Feb 07, 2009 4:18 am

no pics today but managed to get the remaining seat out, carpet, roof lining and most of the dash switches out in an hour or so. still have doorcards on need to get a new set of torx for that as im missing the size due to a pikey mate taking a lend of the size then not returning it! Evil or Very Mad

weekend will be no progress as im working all weekend as per usual.... Sad

going tonight to pick up a cold air feed, steering wheel and rev counter from a lad breaking a clio "volvo" turbo.

also going to look at a 106 rallye for parts sitting on 2 wheels and jacks...been told he only wants £60 for it but ill wait and see whats acutally on the car before i decide to get it or not...and then next week will more than likely be going to get the 106 XSi in the scrapper for the lowered beam, engine, box, and make some cash off ebay for it to recoup the costs.

work done today:

- battery out
- stripped 90% of the interior
- carpet up ready for sound deadning to be took out on monday
- rooflining out the car, tigerseal to come off the roof.

work still to do:

- shift better gear onto the road car
- pick up cold air feed, steering wheel and rev counter tonight.
- fit quickshift (may wait until i see if rallye has gearbox or not)
- sort out the harnasses and see what ones need cleaned etc.

more progress on monday but will update with pics of the gear when i get it

update pics tomorrow.

theres a poverty spec ax up here, no sunroof etc going for £150 too, you get good bargains all the time on ax's and there so under-rated once u 16v everyone starts to see why theyre such good alternatives to the 106/saxo/corsa/nova lads etc

right picked up 106gti struts and rear beam tonight, lowered 60mm, standard front springs, spax rear shocks with adjustable settings, set quite stiff already. GTi-6 brakes and brand new Mintex pads, Goodridge stainless brake lines, Grooved and vented front discs, standard rears ( that will change to grooved ones and mintex shoes more than likely) beam needs a wire brush down and a new paint spray but ill hamerrite it after cleaning it up.

picked up a set of Sparco Corsa seats with subframes for 106/saxo/ax so thats one less thing to worry about!

also, and some will hate me for this, got rid of a set of useles 3spoke 17inch rims tonight and in return got a full set of s1 106 rallye wheels and BRAND NEW YOKIES! lol!

so i reckon that the white one will get 4studded with this lot and have the rallye wheels, and the track car will get the 205 GTi wheels as i need 15's for the gti-6 calipers.

will get more pics up tomorrow of my hoarding session today Laughing

106GTi rear beam lowered 60mm on spax adjustable shocks

Track car ax project Dscf0510

S1 rallye wheels picked up for NOUT! got new tyres for them in the shed so need to fit them still

Track car ax project Dscf0512

106GTi complete srtuts minus brakes, only standard shocks on 60mm lowering springs atm but will change that to AVO coilies when funds allow

Track car ax project Dscf0513

Sparco Corsa bucket seats - overall bit dirty but good enough for a track car, will give them a good shampoo and clean before going in with my harnasses

Track car ax project Dscf0514

steering wheel from an escort RS that was being broken - will sort out a snap off steering wheel boss for it in the near future.

Track car ax project Dscf0515

also picked up a set of front recaro seats from the escort rs turbo, quite a bad engine fire but its being revived as a track car possibly (watch this space Cool )

Track car ax project Dscf0516

garage is full to the brim until i get rid of some interior bits, carpet, oil, old filters etc. so this is how it sits at the moment Laughing

Track car ax project Dscf0517

Track car ax project Dscf0518

no progress tomorrow but i'll take some snapshots of knockhills action for u all and post them up Cool getting rid of some gear tomorrow to some ax owners so should be able to actually move! Laughing

well good and bad news!

bad news: road cars now been found to have MEGA rot around the rear window.....AFTER we pay for fookin window tints to be done! Evil or Very Mad so dunno how long it'll last or if it can be repaired or not Sad if it can it will be and the white ones being used for the track, if not....then well we're having a full car of spares for the track then now! Cool

more updates when possible.... because im running 13" wheels when she's built then im going to use vts front calipers, managed to source a set with pads for £10 so pick them up tomorrow Cool more progress tomorrow when i can and get the long awated progress pics of the car.

perhaps a 106 would be a better start i been on pistonheads and they seem cheaper. 205s are still really pricey bit overatted if you ask me and twitchy on limit. a polo was a thought used to have one was rust free and no sunroof i gave it away i could have turned that into a trackslag had different bumpers bonnet all
hacked about to make lighter . didnt handle all that well but was light .and bits are around for them .
