Budget Motorsport?? This is it!
We've been thinking of different forms of budget motorsport for a while, then heard about a local club - Midlands Mower Racing!
We went down to the first race of the season, and instantly decided we wanted a go! Since then we've been looking for a suitable toy...
Well we found one... and as with most (read all) of my projects, it was found in a scrap yard...
It had already had it's cutting deck removed, but wouldn't start!
We filled it with fuel, fitted the jump pack, turned the key... Nothing.
2 hours of head scratching later, we got her up and going (with a pop or two from the exhaust), after finding the starter motor jammed against the flywheel, and a faulty starter relay.
So we bought it! Next challenge was getting it home... If anyone ever asks if a ride on mower fits in a Jeep...
Yes... just...
So we got it back to B4T HQ... and started to strip!
First Job was to adjust the seat, then fit our Moped K&N, then remove the Governor to really unleash...
Then on to a private road for a bit of testing...
Verdict - It's quick, with a solid engine.
To Do -
Replace the damaged tyre (or replace Wheels)
Retrofit a centrifugal clutch mechanism (From a Go kart or Moped)
Retrofit a Brake system (A front disc and caliper from a scrambler, fitted to the rear axle)
Fit a larger front drive pulley and maybe a smaller rear
Strengthen the Chassis, and add side bumpers
Fit bucket seat
Think up a paint scheme
Stripes!

Awesome! Bucket seat has been reserved for this.
I'll see what else I have that could be used for it.

We're allowed up to 18hp in the series we're entering, so maybe a swap to a Briggs and Stratton V twin at some point

Wheres the Videos Ad?
Been doing research into them, we want a 7-7.5 Inch Pulley, should see us about 56mph at full throttle at about 3600rpm.
We can also run a moped exhaust, a 50cc one with give enough back pressure to run, and silence it enough
Clutch is going to be a Go Kart Centrifugal Clutch
I also think we can get away with removing the starter... a good crank with my impact gun on the crankshaft nut should do the trick! - That'll save us the weight of the starter and battery!
Oh and we need one of these... who has an ebay account?
