Project Pug Empty
PostSubject: Project Pug   Project Pug EmptyWed Jul 09, 2008 3:54 am

When I had him new from the Dealership:

05 Plate (a few weeks from a 55plate lol) 1.4 16v 88bhp Sport(2). In what was a rare colour for models other than the 180 at the time. Extras at the time were the Gti Spoiler, scuff plates, Grilles (bonnet and Lower) and the rear lights.

First Mod was a Peco Direct Fit Backbox, 3.5" rolled in slash cut tip.

Then i got the Interior Items Sprayed:

Shortly After came my 21st and a Private Reg Plate

After that came my Team Dynamics Pro Race 2 Alloys in White, And Lowering Kit:

Then came one of the best mods I had done to date, the Griffiths Quickshift:

Then Followed by the PiperX Induction Kit
Project Pug CIMG0812

I then enjoyed the pug for a while, before getting bored and started to get into the mechanical side of things, which started by adjusting the torsion bars every couple of weeks to see how the handling was affected:
Project Pug CIMG1388

I was then Approached by Ultra Auto Cosmetics to test the new prototypes they had

Unfortunatly the rears got binned at testing stage Sad

More Lowering and tinkering followed through the summer, until towards the end of the summer this happened:

On my way home to get new tyres, an ABS Failure and braking fault happened, leaving the results above Sad

Which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise as it gave me the kick up the arse to get the rest of the stuff done that i wanted to do to the pug.

So, I sourced Gti180 Brakes, Gti180 Rear Axle, 4-2-1 Manifold and set to work on fitting that in my spare time

Then a friend with a bodyshop did the honours of restoring the bodywork

Whilst that was being done i sorted a few extra bits, SP Arches, respraying the interior, some mudflaps, wind deflectors etc, along with the wheels being refurbed and a genuine pug bee sting aerial

Once the car was a near running state, I took it to get the custom exhaust fabricated, and from there its first (unsuccessful) remap and a change of induction kit to the DIA

Following this, some custom decals and some scheming for future ideas Very Happy

Again a few more tweaks were made and suspension was changed again. Along with the addition of some seats from a Gti180

I then changed the wishbones/lower arms as the ball joints had given way due to all the fiddling i'd been doing. I also took the lexus lights off to clean the insides of them, so the Phase 2's went back on. Also fitted the Upper Grille to the front

So, now that the pug was running ok (ish) etc i decided to take it on track to see what it could do, i was impressed lol. Although the the rear ARB rattles a bit due to it being tightened a bit too much.

Along with a couple of RWYB days at the local drag strip as well Very Happy

I was then involved with GSR and Red Dot, where i help develop the GSR Induction Kit prototype through road testing and Rolling road trials etc. Red Dot also remapped the car properly so it runs better than ever. Although now the injectors or pump can't physically supply the demand, so they are all being upgraded next.

So after a final few things, including new osram nightbreaker bulbs and french plates, it stands like this today:
Project Pug DSC01331
Project Pug CIMG2259

I then picked up an entire 1.6 16v Head, Cams, Valves, Casing, Covers, Injectors, Loom, manifolds etc - the lot for £50. All works as well. I took the injectors and loom, and with a bit of hacksaw wizardry, managed to get the loom working with the car, and the bigger injectors installed as well. Now overfuels like a cow, so at least i know the bigger injectors were worth it:

Needs a good clean, strip down etc

Got the injectors out, bit crusty:

Manifold:
Project Pug DSC01393

Wiring Loom for The injectors
Project Pug DSC01402

This won't fit onto the 1.4 16v loom, but the injectors will fit

Old Injector:

New injectors and loom in the 1.4 16v manifold

I also got some HID's from Ebay that I'll be fitting on the 19th as well, as the current lights are pants with regards to their output.

Its going in to Red Dot again on the 19th for another Rolling Road and Remap to get the fuelling sorted Very Happy and will update when its done Very Happy Will also need another Yoko Parada Spec 2 before the next Track Day as the one on at the moment has a Plug in it after a puncture Sad

Great looking car mate, are you just gonna drop the bigger engine in this one seeing as all the running gear has been uprated anyways?
