| Finally got a chance to go pick up alloys from the powder coating company. These will be dedicated for track. iPhone has made some of them appear orange. But the colour is almost a perfect colour match for my harnesses, helmet net and bonnet badge. Next task is find some time to get the rubber on them. Also sourced some digital GTi dials with roughly the correct mileage on them, give or take a few thousand. Can't be doing with the Quiksilver dials that only have a temperature warning light. | |

| Woz, they're the tyres Alex had on at Mallory, minus one that had a puncture. Thus they have genuine Mallory mud on them still 3 Goodyear Hydragrip's and 1 new Kuhmo KU31 on the rear. Car is now ready for Llandow. Put track wheels on already. Just got to fix the ABS warning light that's on (due to not having ABS fitted). | |

| It now has power! But now I need to tweak the handling and a few other bits.
Got a few things to fix:
1) Cable that sense if the alternator is charging the battery has been damaged by heat from the manifold. Need a new connector + cable and cut my bit out and replace it. Will also get some heat resistant tape to wrap around it.
2) Still got a split CV boot. May just get GTi driveshafts and be done with it.
3) Fit a catch tank. Engine breathes heavily on track and when cornering, oil comes shooting out the cam cover breather pipe and is drawn out through the air filter. A little oil goes a long way!
And on my shopping list:
1) 266mm brakes (hopefully sourced already). GTi brakes were fine at Llandow and didn't go off but I want to be able to brake later.
2) Stiffer springs. Probably get some Faulkner 155lb springs.
3) 22mm front GTi ARB, with polybush front ARB mounts (Flo-Flex probably).
4) Lower the back a little more. Probably -10mm.
Would like to get all of this done before Mallory, but we'll see.

| Cheers Huw. I'll visit Unipart Hopefully catch you at Mallory, Rich? Hoping to make Llandow on the 27th August but not sure. Depends on work. The map sensor cables are spot on. No problems there at all. Cleaned all the oil up earlier and noticed that the wires for the plug on the alternator have completely gone and the plug has fallen off somewhere! Will take snips to scrapyard, get a donor plug and crimp on some spade connectors. Not sure which way around the wires and suppose to go but I've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right (or wrong). | |

| This is more of a reminder for me, because I'll forget.... List of things that need doing/I want to do, roughly in the right order: 1. Opie Oils order: Gearbox oil, engine oil, oil filter, DOT4 racing brake fluid, Brembo Max discs. 2. Motor factors order: GTi driveshafts, new rear drums/hubs, exhaust clamp, Ferodo DS2500 pads. 3. Work out how to get larger front ARB from Rich down to me, without costing £60 in courier fees 4. Sort out squeaking exhaust. 5. Sort alternator battery charging plug and wiring that fell off (scrapyard to rob wiring and plug). 6. Refurb 266mm callipers. 7. Fit 266mm brake setup. 8. Replace driveshafts with GTi driveshafts. 9. Order poly mounts for 22mm front ARB, fit front ARB. 10. Gearbox and engine oil change. 11. Sort out oil catch tank (design it, get it built by OBP). 12. Replace front springs with Faulkner 155lb springs. 13. Get back end adjusted for handling. 14. Throttle bodies. 15. Cage. 16. Quaife. (OK so the last 3 may take some time get done or may never happen ) | |

| Probably next track day when it's breathing heavily. Although the 90 degree connector should prevent loads of oil pouring out from the cam cover breather. When you're around next you can always sniff it when the engine is running | |

| Mallory in a few weekends time. Need to pull my finger out: - Order new droplinks, front ARB poly bushes, Brembo Max discs and DS2500 pads.
- Fit 22mm front ARB.
- Finish refurbing 266mm callipers and get them fitted.
- Time permitting, get back end down another 5-10mm.
After Mallory I'll get some 200lb springs made up as I doubt I'll have time before. Also need to fit in an MOT.

Last weekend. Halfords car wash with a "powerful blend of detergents" did the trick. Rear beam is making all sorts of odd noises, including the good old bottles clunking together/pinging. Undid the bolts on the rear ARB end plates, twisted one end plate around to check its condition and I managed to pull the ARB out with no effort. Oops. Applied fresh grease and used the old M8 bolt + socket trick to pull the ARB in to the passenger side end plate. Decided to use a big breaker bar and ended up shearing off the M8 bolt. Luckily managed to get it out. Hopefully that's that sorted but I have a feeling the beam is probably shot too. Will get some new stub pins instead of gambling with another beam. I now have all the parts I mentioned previously, plus rear beam mounts. Still need to call Faulkner and get them to make me some 200lb springs. I'm hoping I can just say I want a 35-40mm drop and they'll know all the technical bits like free length, internal diameter etc

| Not much progress as of late. Woz took the 106 around Brands 2 weekends ago and thought it handled pretty well. I just need to learn how to drive it. So off to Rockingham this weekend. Some decent tyres are on the shopping list. I'll try my hardest to destroy the current tyres at Rockingham. Engine breathes very heavily when out on track though. At Brands my catch tank had half a litre of oil in it, after a few hot laps. Can't think what's wrong with it. No evidence of smoke from the exhaust for example. I might get a small bit of ali tube made up that I can put inside the breather pipe to restrict its internal diameter. Had this turn up today: For the front. Tow eye at the back is pretty accessible. At the front it hardly sticks out and after going down Paddock sideways towards the gravel trap (cheers Woz!), I thought it may be a worthwhile investment Not decided how I'll fix it on yet. Was thinking of cutting the existing eye off and bolting this in its place. Or getting Jenny's Dad to weld it on. | |
