Spent the entire day at Pug1Off.
Car went through MOT. It did pass! But I had the rear beam replaced. Stu heard the noises coming from the back at Rockingham and a few others probably did too when they had a passenger ride. Plus the ARB constantly coming loose (I could just pull it out after undoing the ARB end plate bolt).
So now I have discs instead of drums, poly bush beam mounts and no play! Also had it lowered a tiny bit more to try to eliminate some of the back end wiggle that I get under hard braking.
Matt at Pug1Off also found the timing was slightly out. Exhaust was out by 2-3 degrees. That'll probably explain some of the difficulties I had. It may just be in my head but it seems to pull better now. On the downside the idle doesn't sound quite as lumpy but the bangs from the exhaust are much more violent

Not really progress but I handed the car over to my local mechanic to try to fix all the leaks. Driveshaft seal replaced so it's not sharting gearbox oil. Replaced a few oil seals and it doesn't seem to be peeing as much engine oil out any more.
Want to get hold of a quaife, for when I blow my diff up again. TBs are on the cards.
Got Bedford GT, Llandow, Snetterton and Goodwood lined up for 2011 already.

Oulton and Angelsey will be added when dates are confirmed Want to go back to Brands and wouldn't mind doing Rockingham again.
Evo one day. Don't worry! Still love driving the 106 on track at the moment. There's still more potential and I've not found the cars limits just yet. When its got a quaife in there, on bodies, mapped and it doesn't excite me I'll know that it's time to move on to something else.

Spent the last two Saturday morning's up at Pug1Off.
First weekend I had the Quaife ATB diff fitted, along with a machined flywheel and an aluminium pulley on the other end.
The flywheel that went on wasn't for me but mine didn't come back in time. This flywheel had been machined for a race engine designed to rev up to 11k. So it wasn't as light as mine would have been but it had to do. Unfortunately after fitting, the clutch was slipping. Matt at Pug1Off thought it was probably a height difference in the flywheel and it would have been OK if they'd changed the centre plate.
So went back this weekend and they changed the flywheel and it's now spot on. Whilst I was waiting, Matt took me down to a charity rolling road event with some other Pug1Off cars. Had a 306 Rallye with a GTi6 engine, forged internals, cammed and bodies that made 270bhp and a lot of noise!
This is all I have to show for my two weekends:
Trackday is now required ASAP. Thinking of doing Mallory either this month or next to see how it handles.
It feels like the L&B flywheel has transformed the car though. So much more "get up and go" when you put your foot down. I can feel the difference the Quaife has made too but this'll really come in to its own on track.
Was thinking about getting a cage around October time but this needs some careful thought. Bolt in or weld in. And taking in to consideration I've got a sunroof which makes things more awkward.
But I think next on the list are some DS3000 pads to replace the DS2500's and some Tarox discs. I've somehow managed to warp a disc and the brake judder is awful. I was concerned the DS3000's might be utter turd for road use but I was out in a Pug1Off 205 GTi6 today that had DS3000's and they seemed fine.

Nice list of things done Dave although not sure the lanyard is a fair deal for all that money!!
The lightened flywheel in the Lude was one of the best things I've done to it, revs so much more freely and never had a problem with the loss of rotational mass from the standard one on hills that some people think is the case! What weight flywheel did you get in the end?
I'm in the same boat with the gearbox, only been out for a short drive today as need to bed the brakes in but probably won't get to see the benefit of the new LSD until a trackday!

The lanyard will be used to tie things on when they fall off. So it'll get my money's worth out of it!
I had to keep checking what gear I was in because it revs so much easier now. To be honest, I was so busy talking about other things I forgot to ask how much they took off! I'll try to find out though as you're the second person to ask.
Tomorrow I'm getting less brrrap and fitting a new centre section with a silencer. It completely ruins a trackday when you have to take it easy because you're too noisy. Unfortunately the new centre section weighs an absolute ton compared to the race pipe. So I'll have to find something else to remove to compensate.

I've had a right crappy end to the week, so to cheer myself up I have one of these coming:
Worked out the wiring for it, so for my own reference:
Wires from OMSLS: Black = Earth Red = Switched live Blue = Pin 6 on black plug of dials (rev counter)
The light block can be mounted inside the dials, between the speedo and rev counter, like this:
Since having the L&B flywheel I'm constantly finding the limiter. Hits 5k and it's away. The alternative is to get the rev limit moved up a bit
Edit: If you're reading this because you've done a Google search on wiring an Omex sequential shift light in to your 106/Saxo, note that I've got digital dials. If you have digital dials, it's pin 6 on the black connector that's the rev counter. If you've got analogue dials I think you'll want pin 1 on the yellow connector.

I've still not found out how much weight was taken off my flywheel. I keep forgetting to ask.
New Supersprint centre section with silencer fitted. Exhaust is very quiet now. Don't like it but I should have no issues on track with it.
Booked Mallory for this weekend. Should be a good test of the Quaife! Started the usual track day prep work this weekend. Haven't found any surprises yet either.
Ordered a new Green filter as the one I've got has been on the 106 since day 1 and it's pretty knackered.
And these were on my desk this morning, to be fitted tomorrow:
Along with some DS3000 pads.
Probably the next thing on my shopping list will be a Satchshift. For those of you outside the 106/205 circle:
Completely replaces the gear linkage system, including the gear level. Completely removes all the play. Looks like a sequential shifter too but probably shouldn't use it like one or the MA gearbox will poo itself

Fitted. Just waiting on new air filter now which should be with me tomorrow, I hope.
Although the discs/pads (either or) has made the caliper slightly more proud and the wheel weights catch ever so slightly. Not enough to rip them off but enough that it makes a clicking sound on each revolution. I'm hoping it'll wear down and be OK otherwise I'll need to grind the caliper slightly.
Of course, I could just get some 15" alloys and get bigger calipers! And semi-slicks

Were you there by chance? Ive put some photo's up in the past track days section. Quite a challenging circuit with all the chicanes added, though having stapletons in does ruin the run through gerrards abit especially when your in something when you can really feel the change of weight under braking. My only issue with the circuit from a track day point of view was going into the hairpin, with a few cars out ahead it got abit like queing to enter a carpark rather then pretending your Senna.
Be well worth a B4T outing there though.

You're still around Woz! Welcome back
Just posted up a thread on my trip to Mallory. Quickest I exited Gerrards was 90mph when I glanced down. I wanted more and I should have tried selecting 4th mid-corner to see what happened. I was running out of revs in 3rd. More grippy tyres would have helped a lot too (with my confidence to push that little bit more!).
But as per my Mallory thread, I have permission to get bodies. So that'll be this year, most likely mid-July at the moment.

Right. Plans have changed... slightly.
If I'm going to get bodies I need one cam changed as I've got cambi cams so that it idles without issue etc on standard management (the exhaust is milder). So if I've got to have one cam changed to a Newman PH3, I was thinking it probably makes sense to just go to Newman PH4's and then I've got a bit more scope for the future. Otherwise if I want more power I'm going to have to get the cams changed yet again.
The problem with PH4's is the valve to piston clearance isn't enough and they'll hit.
The solution so that I can use PH4's: Rebore, forged pistons, modified rods with ARP bolts, race bearings, flowed cylinder head and valve springs.
That should be 183bhp.
For a bit extra I can use Catcams and see 190bhp.
And for even more I could see 204bhp if I added in solid lifters, forged h-beam rods, shims and retainers.
But 204bhp is pretty expensive. Could get a turbo conversion for that.
I'm very very tempted by the 190bhp setup. And if I ever did want 204bhp in the future, I've got 90% of the components.
Of course I could buy another car. But, I still love driving the 106 (both on and off track). It still makes me smile. It's great fun pwning "bigger" cars. And I know the 106. I know the gearbox is good, the suspension is good. There's no rust. And after the work, the engine will be in great condition.
It'll probably be very similar to this:
Oh and SatchShift is now ordered too.
Work will probably commence second week of July and take 2 weeks to complete.
Watch this space...

Bit more progress today.
Pug1Off have a TU5JP4 engine in at the moment. So rather than taking my TU5J4 engine out and rebuilding it for 2 weeks, they're going to build up the other engine now and swap them over. Still going for 190bhp.
Work is scheduled for 16th July. Rolling road has been booked for live mapping.
Have had to add on a few more parts such as a Mocal oil cooler and been advised to run an organic clutch.
Will post up more specs when I get them.
